Attitudes to sex are becoming less traditional in Northern Ireland with few disapproving of sex before marriage while it's not unusual for both men and women to have a number of different sexual partners and some are experimenting with group sex.

Our love lives are no longer limited to a one-on-one experience with 21% of people here claiming to have had group sex.

And Belfast is the capital of experimentation with 26% having a fling outside the usual couple arrangement.

But the number drops to 17% for heterosexuals compared to 40% of bisexuals and 52% among homosexuals, according to our survey.

Forty-five per cent of those who are more fluid with their sexuality were more likely to have had group sex.

Meanwhile, the findings were also associated with more sexual partners; 53% of those who had sex with more than 20 people and those with 11-19 lovers took part in group romps. Not surprisingly, those with a high sex drive, high enjoyment of sex, high orgasm rate and watched a lot of porn were more likely to have had group sex.

There was also a more lenient view of cheating, believing all kinds of contact, including sexual touching and kissing, don't really mean an affair.

Meanwhile, when it comes to the number of sexual partners over someone's lifetime, the average here is five to 10 among both men and women.

Over 60% of us have slept with between one and 10 people, with 38% having sex with more than 10.

A quarter of men have over 20 notches on the bed post compared to 16% of women, with people in Co Tyrone the most prolific lovers - they are the most likely to have had more than 20 sexual partners.

Meanwhile, those in Co Armagh are the most likely to have had one partner.

Our survey also asked people to rank their satisfaction with their number - 65% were happy while 20% wished it was higher and 16% wanted it to be fewer.

Those under 24 were most likely to wish they'd had fewer lovers, while those with just one sexual mate were the most satisfied at 81%.

The gender breakdown reveals 33% of men are more likely to wish they had more sexual partners compared to nine per cent of women; with 27% of women wishing they had had fewer lovers and six per cent of men.

Our findings showed those with more than 20 partners are the least happy with their number - 26% wish it was higher, 20% wish it was lower.

Sex before marriage is barely an issue now, according to the survey, with just four per cent disapproving versus 69% who do, with Belfast leading the way against traditionally 'saving yourself' for the marital bed with 51% strongly approving.

The most likely to disapprove were those in Co Antrim, with bisexuals the group mostly likely to strongly approve of sex before marriage.
