A Co Armagh food company has said it will enjoy a major turnover boost from a deal to supply salads to Asda stores around the UK.

Avondale Foods in Craigavon will supply coleslaws, potato salads, side salads and salad meals under Asda's own Extra Special deal.

It builds on the company's existing partnership with Asda, which already stocks its Country Kitchen coleslaws and traditional vegetable broth.

Avondale Foods was founded by brothers Harry and Derek Geddis over 50 years ago and employs 400 staff.

Head of sales Philip Conway said: "We have a long working relationship with Asda and are delighted to secure this new business on a UK wide level. The deal will mean a significant increase in turnover for us - and create 60 new jobs, which is fantastic.

"We pride ourselves on innovation and recipe development to create top quality products, and we're very proud of the range." Michael McCallion, buying manager for Asda NI, said Avondale had become one of the supermarket's "most trusted" suppliers.
