The first easyHotel in Northern Ireland has officially opened its doors in Belfast.

Opening ahead of schedule, the “super budget hotel” is part of a a UK-wide brand. It has been brought to Belfast, by David Crowe from Holywood and Kevin Baird from Belfast, who worked with local contractors and designers to make their first venture in the hospitality industry a success.

The hotel boasts four floors, free WiFi throughout and a range of rooms including family rooms, double rooms, superior rooms and facilities to cater for those with disabilities, attached to the entrance is Coffee 24 Howard Street.

However, the project was previously in doubt as to whether or not it would be opening, after some of the bedrooms were deemed too small.

The development involved the conversion of offices into bedrooms, and it is understood that some of the rooms did not meet the 13 sqm stipulated in Northern Ireland legislation.

All accommodation must be certified by Tourism Northern Ireland, with requirements set out in the Categories of Tourist Establishment (Statutory Criteria) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1992.

Located on Howard Street, Kevin Baird said that the budget hotel has experienced a “strong momentum in first booking and looks set to have a good first quarter in operation.”

Talking about his excitement for the new project, Kevin explained how guests will be able to us their smart phones to check in.

He said:“We offer super-budget, affordable accommodation that doesn’t shy away from quality. This is something that we wanted to ensure throughout. With a modern and sleek design, easyHotel guest accommodation offers everything you need to have a fabulous and comfortable stay in Belfast.

“Using smartphones, our guests have the ability to unlock their room without even having to check-in. It is a new concept, but it is one that meets the needs of the modern traveller and I think we will be seeing a lot more of in major cities.”
